Michael Chiklis Joins Eagle Eye

With The Shield on indefinite hiatus, Michael Chiklis – who plays the wonderful monster that is Vic Mackey in the gritty cop show – must have been getting bored of kicking around the house, waiting for the Writers’ Strike to end, for he’s today signed on to a supporting role in the intriguing thriller, Eagle Eye.

Chiklis is a late addition to an excellent cast in the DJ Caruso-directed movie, which already stars Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monaghan, Rosario Dawson, Billy Bob Thornton, and Anthony Mackie.

Until recently, little had been known about the movie, but now some plot details are leaking out. LaBeouf – the Hollywood man of the moment – and the marvellous Monaghan will play a slacker and a single mom who are framed as terrorists and forced to join a cell which is planning to carry out a political assassination. Given that Chiklis has signed on to play the Secretary Of Defence, we’re guessing that he might be the one they’re trying to assassinate (while really trying not to assassinate him, of course).

Empire is a big fan of Chiklis’ work, and he’s a hell of a nice guy in real life, so we’re delighted to see him on board one of the more interesting blockbusters of the next year or so. We’d usually add a bit here about keeping an eagle eye on developments, but we don’t think we need to bother now, do we?
