Earlier in the month, Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance began to lock in his cast for crime drama The Place Beyond The Pines, reuniting with Ryan Gosling and also hiring Bradley Cooperfor one of the other lead roles. Now he’s after some hot lady action! And by that, we of course mean he’s got Eva Mendes signing on and Greta Gerwig in talks.
Pines will follow the tragic fallout of a showdown between desperate motorcyclist-turned bank robber Gosling and policeman-turned-politico Cooper. As the incident between the pair intensifies, deep-seated family rivalries begin to come into play.
Mendes is now on board to play Gosling’s love interest, the woman who also happens to be the mother of his son, and one of the reasons he turned to crime. If Gerwig joins the film, she’ll play Cooper’s wife.
Gerwig was last seen romancing Russell Brand in Arthur, while Mendes brought the laughs as Will Ferrell’s better half in The Other Guys. We don’t expect Pines to be funny in the slightest, though given how good **Blue Valentine **was, we're hoping for great things...
