She’s been appearing in lots of films this year, from Identity Thief to This Is 40 and even T****he Hangover Part III. But for a future project, Melissa McCarthy will only be heard, because she’s signed to voice DreamWorks Animation’s **B.O.O.: Bureau Of Otherworldly Operations.

Given the lead time on animated movies, McCarthy’s probably been at work on the thing for a while, but we now know she’s playing Watts, the partner to fellow spook Jackson Moss (Seth Rogen). The Bureau of the title handles ghost activity in the world and keeps humanity safe from evil hauntings. Their job becomes trickier when the Most Wanted Haunter plots to destroy the agency.

Yes, it sounds a little close to the concept for **R.I.P.D. (itself feeling awfully similar to Men In Black), but the combo of Rogen and McCarthy as wacky ghost cops is appealing. Tony Leondis is directing, and came up with the basic idea, which was then scripted by Puss In Boots writer Tom Wheeler.

McCarthy will be back on our screens alongside Sandra Bullock in cop comedy The Heat (out June 28) and has been busy making her co-directorial debut (with other half Ben Falcone) on Tammy. She’s also lined up work on indie pic St. Vincent de Van Nuys. You can hear her dropping by the Empire Pod-booth to talk** Identity Thief** alongside Jason Bateman below.
