After some stints in the theatre, a couple of short-lived TV series, and a recurring role in Nip/Tuck, Melanie Griffith is returning to the big screen in **The Grief Tourist.

Mrs Banderas will play an as-yet unspecified part in the indie drama, which sees Bryan Cranston wrestling an unhealthy obsession with serial killers. Re-tracing their steps to better understand them, his hobby takes a turn for the dark side...

Suri Krishnamma is behind the camera, and the script is by Band of Brothers' Frank John Hughes. Co-producer Michael Cudlitz is also part of the cast.

Griffith's last truly memorable screen role was arguably in John Waters' Cecil B Demented ten years ago. She's currently filming Yellow with Nick Cassavetes, and may also be attached to star alongside Nick Nolte in At 2:15. Is she starting a comeback?

The Grief Tourist is due in 2011.
