The meat feast continued at the top of the US Box Office, with** Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs** taking another $24.6m on its second weekend on release to continue in top spot. The Sony CG animation comfortably saw off competition from **Fame **and Bruce Willis' sci-fi thriller Surrogates, both of which opened widely but disappointingly.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs is based on a well-loved children's picturebook. Just *how *well loved is demonstrated by the fact that, with its unusually low second weekend drop-off of only 19%, crowds came flocking back for another helping of meateorological magic.

Sadly for Bruce and his dead-lemur wig, that's more than can be said for Surrogates, which opened with a disappointing $15m. The science-fiction thriller is set in a similar near-future world as I, Legend, but, as Box Office Mojo points out, its receipts are dwarfed by the $52m the Will Smith vehicle took on its opening weekend.

The remake of '80s popsocked favourite Fame, meanwhile, took $10m on its first weekend, less than half that of original, and is already shaping up for a short run on release. The other major opener, the Event Horizon-ey sci-fi horror Pandorum fell into a black hole of its own, drumming up only $4.4m.

On another quiet weekend at the movies - down 7% on the corresponding weekend last year when Eagle Eye opened - there were major drop-offs for most of the second weekenders, including the Jennifer Aniston romance **Love Happens (down 46% to $4.6m), Shane Acker's 9 (49% to $2.8m), and the corpse that is ** Jennifer's Body (49% to $2.8m).
