McConaughey Is A Surfer Dude

Matthew "Bongos" McConaughey, Hollywood's foremost naked jazz percussionist, has been absent from our screens (if not our hearts) since Failure to Launch early last year. But with four projects in various stages of development already, and with today's news that he's signed on to star in Surfer, Dude, he should soon be back in our cinemas (if not in our hearts) once again.

Surfer, Dude casts McConaughey as a "soulful surfer in existential crisis", apparently - but that's all there is as regards plot. Any further details would be pure speculation on our part - so here goes. We're thinking Bodhi without the bank robbery, Blue Crush without the boobs, Blue Juice without the Brits - and we're wondering why so many surf films involve the letter "B".

The film is to be directed by S. R. Bindler, from a script that he has written with Cory Van Dyke. The pair previously worked together on the documentary about one of those keep-your-hand-on-the-car-to-win-it competitions, Hands On A Hard Body.

In any case, McConaughey will be spending his summer gettin' radical in Malibu after he finishes shooting Fool's Gold, with How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days co-star Kate Hudson, in Australia. Apparently he's already practicing his wave-riding skills there, as you can see in this picture. Well, actually, you can't see the surfing, but he *is *holding a surf board, so we're prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt.

The film doesn't have any other cast or a distributor yet, but we'll let you know when further details are confirmed.
