Following the casting of Philip Seymour Hoffman in February, Anton Corbijn's adaptation of John Le Carre's A Most Wanted Man** now has its second lead, in the shapely form of Rachel McAdams{
The story follows Issa, a refugee lately escaped from a Turkish prison and on the run from the Swedish authorities, who claims to be Chechen, but, rather mysteriously, doesn't speak the language. Arriving in Hamburg, he reveals he has the means to access a very private bank account containing a legacy of dubious origin. It's not long before British, German and American intelligence agencies are paying close attention.
Hoffman is aboard the film as German spook Gunther Bachmann, and McAdams is being described as "a woman who becomes involved in the international intrigue." We'd guess that that makes her Annabel Richter, employed as Issa's lawyer, but that's not confirmed at this stage.
Edge Of Darkness co-writer Andrew Bovell wrote the screenplay, and Le Carre's book was partly inspired by the story of Murat Kurnaz, a Turkish citizen living in Germany who was arrested in Pakistan in 2001 and made a resident Guantanamo Bay for five years.
There'll be plenty of research to draw on then, for whoever lands the Issa role. We'll have news of that sometime before shooting starts in Hamburg in September.
