Got your calendars ready? Good. Star Wars: Episode I has a release date. The prequel to George Lucas' seminal sci-fi trilogy will hit the United States and Canada big-style on May 21, 1999. A statement on the movie's official website says the opening won't be huge and that the movie will only be released in selected cinemas "with the emphasis on quality." Presumably this means cinemas which have THX sound systems and very big screens. In the statement, George Lucas says that he's not interested in breaking box-office records. Instead, he's "interested in quality presentation and a positive group experience for everyone who comes to see this film. It's about sight and sound and the movie itself."
