Spending a few years washed up on an island where time plays tricks and people are always trying to kill you/fool you/convince them to join their crusade would have an effect on anyone, and it looks like Lost’s Matthew Fox is no exception. He’s turned into a killer! All right, so it’s just for a film, and he’s signed to play an assassin in I, Alex Cross.

Writer/director/actor Tyler Perry is already aboard playing the new version of novelist James Patterson’s character, which has previously been on screen in the shape of Morgan Freeman.

Rob Coen is directing the film, which finds Perry’s Cross and his partner Tommy Kane (Ed Burns) tangling with the evil Michael Sullivan (Fox). When Cross stops him from killing one of his victims, the man known as "The Butcher of Sligo" takes it personally, and makes it even more personal for the detective by slaughtering his wife in a particularly nasty way.

Marc Moss worked on the script with Cohen, which apparently diverges from the original novel in several ways. There’s no word on a release date yet, and the film’s producers are still negotiating with distributors…
