Martin Freeman Is Rembrandt

Martin Freeman, currently a little busy with Simon Pegg on Hot Fuzz, will have to brush up on his art skills.

He’s signed on to play Rembrandt Van Rijn in Peter Greenaway’s Nightwatching. The movie – unsurprisingly – follows the creation of one of Rembrandt’s most famous paintings (The Nightwatch) and the effect on his private life. A life that includes Saskia (Sarah Polley) and Geertje (Minnie Driver), the two ladies in his world, the lucky, paint-splattered git.

Greenaway is something of a Rembrandt obsessive, having developed an exhibition of the same name for an Amsterdam museum. And it’ll be released to coincide with 400th anniversary of the artist's birth, with Greenaway shooting in the Netherlands, Poland and Wales this year.
