We already know that Martin Campbell's the guy to go to when you want to relaunch the Bond franchise or give Zorro a makeover, but he's just lined up a fresh action thriller, Nagasaki Deadline, to direct.

The film's the story of an "emotionally damaged" FBI agent who has to decipher historical events in the race to stop a terrorist plot. Given the title, are we looking at World War II-era history? Well, it's not clear yet - but the fact that this was in pre-production prior to 9/11 before being shelved as a result suggests that weapons of mass destruction might be involved.

The screenplay was written by David and Peter Griffiths (Collateral Damage) who'll also be producing, and is currently having a rewrite by William Cast Away Broyles Jr. The film's on the fast track to go into production next year, but there's no cast as yet, and with Campbell still working on the Mel Gibson-starring Edge of Darkness, an adaptation and update of the mini-series Campbell also directed in the mid-80s.
