Given the Oscar-nominated success he had adapting Andy Weir's work with The Martian, it makes sense that the team behind the new Weir-based movie Project Hail Mary would want to enlist the help of Drew Goddard. And that's just what is happening, as Goddard is in talks to work on the new script.

With Ryan Gosling on to star and develop the story alongside directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Project Hail Mary (still more of a working title) focuses on an astronaut who wakes up to find himself millions of miles away from home, in a tiny craft with two dead crew mates for company and no recollection of his mission or even his name. But this man will soon discover he is humanity’s only hope for survival from an extinction-level threat.

MGM has splashed $3 million for the rights to make the movie, and scoring Goddard would just be the latest addition of a talented type to work on it. Though the deal might depend on whether Goddard has space in his schedule once Gosling, Lord and Miller are happy with the basic story.
