Beatles + time travel = comedy?

Mark Waters Says Get Back

If you had a time machine, where would you go? What would you do? Would you take aim at the old classic of offing Hitler? Re-visit an old love? Or steal ancient artefacts and get rich? That’s an opportunity explored in a new comedy, Get Back, which Mark Waters is now in negotiations to direct.

Chris McCoy’s script follows two Beatles fans who discover a time-travelling device. But instead of simply, say, taking a jaunt back to the Cavern Club to see their idols play, they decide to fix what they perceive as the worst thing to strike the bad: Yoko Ono. So it becomes their mission to prevent John Lennon from ever meeting her…

Waters has been busy shooting Jim Carrey and a flock of waddling birds in Mr Popper’s Penguins, but he’s also got sci-fi/fantasy experience with the likes of The Spiderwick Chronicles, Freaky Friday and Just Like Heaven.

With the film still at a relatively early stage, there’s no word on who Waters will get to play the Fab Four (assuming they appear much beyond cameos), but it could be a funny idea.
