Mark Waters – the director of Mean Girls and Freaky Friday – is getting his high-concept comedy freak on again.

He’s just signed on to direct Seven Days, a comedy/drama totally unrelated to the Ring movies. Instead, the movie will depict seven pivotal days in the life of its protagonist, across a period of twenty years.

Each segment of the film will begin with the hero waking up, so think of it as a Groundhog Day in reverse, where each new day is actually very different.

The movie originated with screenwriter Joshua Ferris, and will be made by Universal Pictures.

However, with Waters set to direct Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past, with Matthew ‘Bongos’ McConaughey, Hollywood’s foremost naked jazz percussionist, and Jennifer Garner, it will be a while before Seven Days goes before the camera. Our guess is that it’ll be at least seven days. But more like a year.

The writers’ strike’s not helping, either, for Ferris hasn’t actually entirely finished his script – he’s yet to decide which days to focus on, apparently. And he won’t be able to finish it until the strike is over, which could be God knows when.

But you know us – we’ll keep an eye on it.
