Though he's seen as a key part of the Avengers team, Mark Ruffalo's version of Bruce Banner hasn't ever gotten the solo movie he deserves, despite the actor's fun, nuanced portrayal of the character. It's been mooted before and, according to the man himself, there may still be hope of another movie (though nothing formal yet).

As part of a wide-ranging Variety interview about some new projects, his career trajectory and his activism, Ruffalo lets slip that there is at least a notion of a new Hulk movie. "There’s an idea that I think could be really interesting,” he says. "We’ve never really followed him into his life. He’s always kind of off on the side. He’s like the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern of the Avengers. It’d be interesting to fill in all the blanks about what happened to him in between all these movies." But he's quick to stress that nothing is officially in the works.

Of course, attempts to make a new Hulk movie are usually stymied by the fact that Universal – which distributed 2008's The Incredible Hulk – still owns the rights to solo Banner-ventures, and seems unlikely to want to collaborate with the might of the Disney-owned MCU (it has its own giant franchises to nurture, though in a post-pandemic world, that might change).

But there is hope for more from the big green guy (in his smarter current incarnation) – there's a small mention of there being talks about him showing up on theShe-Hulkshow in the works for Disney+, which follows Bruce's cousin, Jennifer Walters. More Banner? We'll take it!
