For the majority of Star Wars fans, the reaction has been unanimous: The Mandalorian Season 2 was a great, great run for the show. And Friday’s season finale confirmed that, with a massive game-changing episode that’ll have everyone perched on the edge of their seats until December 2021. If you’re reading this and you haven’t seen the most recent Chapter of the show yet? Well, you’ll probably want to make like Grogu and hide away in your floating crib instead of reading the rest of this article – we’re about to dig into the most spoiler-y stuff from the latest instalment.

Spoilers for the Season 2 finale follow

Still here? Well, if you caught the ep you’re likely still reeling from that final ten minutes, which saw none other than Luke Skywalker,in his post-Return Of The Jedi prime show up to save the day with his green lightsaber, having picked up Baby Yoda’s Force-Skype call. Mark Hamill himself was credited for the appearance (though evidently plenty of digital trickery was used), and he tweeted after the episode dropped on Disney+. “Seen anything good on TV lately?” he asked, before following up with a message hailing the fact that his arrival didn’t leak before the series aired. “The fact that we were able to keep my involvement a secret for over a year with no leaks is nothing less than a miracle. A real triumph for spoiler-haters everywhere!”

It’s true – Luke’s appearance really did manage to remain under wraps, even though early reports revealed the arrival of Rosario Dawson’s live-action Ahsoka Tano and the return of Boba Fett prior to the season airing. It’s a great sign that the upcoming slate of Disney+ shows across Star Wars and Marvel might be able to pull off more huge surprises in the future. Speaking of the future, where The Mandalorian goes from here remains to be seen – but we do know that more adventures with Boba will be coming late year in something called The Book Of Boba Fett. Stay tuned for confirmation over whether that’s its own series, a one-off, or the next phase of The Mandalorian itself.
