Like its central human character, Alpha seems to have a while wandering around, looking for the right spot. Originally aiming to arrive here in March this year, it has slipped once again, but does have a new trailer online.

Director Albert Hughes dreamt up the idea and Dan Wiedenhaupt has written a script for Alpha set 20,000 years ago in Europe during the Upper Paleolithic period, which as we all know was a great time to be alive. Sorry, we mean, "harsh and terrifying", since it was the last ice age. Originally named The Solutrean (after a type of tool and weapon construction in the time, with many of the items found at a site at Solutré, France), the movie has now been switched to the slightly less obscure name.

Kodi Smit-McPhee is a young man who is left for dead after a hunting expedition goes badly wrong must cross miles of dangerous, weather-whipped territory to reunite with his tribe. He unexpectedly joins forces with a wolf, and together the pair must survive lurking threats, most of them with bigger teeth than either partner.

Alpha will be in UK cinemas on 24 August.
