Netflix has real star pulling-power these days – just take a look at Maniac, its new limited series which boasts Jonah Hill and Emma Stone as its leading pair. It might not be a Superbad sequel, but the new full-fledged trailer for the show promises a bold and bonkers head-trip way beyond what you might be expecting.

It all starts sedately enough, with Annie (Stone) and Owen (Hill) signing up for a pharmaceutical experiment aiming to exorcise any mind-based demons. And then it goes totally out-there, showing Stone in fantasy-heroine garb (not unlike Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn), Hill in a giant model village, and plenty more in-between. It’s fair to say that Maniac is looking way more expansive than previously expected.

The show comes from Cary Joji Fukunaga, the director of True Detective Season 1 and Beasts of No Nation, and the full season is expected to drop on the streaming service on 21 September. We can’t to find out exactly what it’s all about.
