Between A Clockwork Orange and If…, Malcolm McDowell is a legend of the big screen – but it’s been a while since we’ve seen him in a meaty, weighty role he can really stick his teeth into. That looks set to change with his latest role – according to Variety, McDowell will be portraying media tycoon Rupert Murdoch in upcoming drama Fair and Balanced, joining an already impressive cast in a timely true story.

The film comes from Trumbo director Jay Roach, shooting from a script by The Big Short writer Charles Randolph, and will follow a group of women working at the Fox News network who took on former boss Roger Ailes amid a culture of sexism and sexual harassment. Rupert Murdoch appointed Ailes at Fox News in 1996. Nicole Kidman is on board to play Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson, with Charlize Theron playing network star Megyn Kelly. Also among the cast are Margot Robbie, Kate McKinnon, and Allison Janney, with John Lithgow playing Ailes.

Fair And Balanced is currently in pre-production and is expected to shoot before the end of 2018, and will come from Annapurna Pictures.
