Dodgeball director Rawson Marshall Thurber is aiming to succeed where so many development executives have failed: he’s writing and directing a big-screen adaptation of Magnum.

The 1980’s private eye series followed the adventures of Thomas Magnum (Tom Selleck) an intelligence officer turned PI hired by wealthy author Robin Masters to oversee security on his sprawling Hawaii estate. The show was famous for its bikini babes and Selleck’s iconic Ferrari and facial hair.

Thurber claims he’s not making a spoof of the show and aims to stick close to the tone of the show, which mixed humour and danger. The planned plot sees Magnum searching for a missing friend.

But the big question is: will the ‘tache be back?
