There have been several stories about the third instalment of the Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them franchise lately. Not the least of which was word that Johnny Depp has been jettisoned from it, leaving a vacancy in the cast for someone to play dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. Top of Warner Bros.' list, and in early talks, is Mads Mikkelsen.

It's not a done deal yet, but director David Yates is reportedly eager to score him for the film, which has already been shooting for a while. Depp worked for one day on the movie, so that will need to be re-shot. The clock is ticking on the casting, with Yates and co still trying to finish the film, which is currently scheduled for release on 15 July, 2022.

Mikkelsen would certainly be a solid choice for the role, with several villain roles under his belt already and the ability to bring different shades to the characters he plays. Fantastic Beasts 3, which still doesn't have an official subtitle, stars the returning likes of Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law and Katherine Waterston. Mikkelsen, meanwhile, will next be seen in Another Round and Chaos Walking.
