Welcome, one and all, to the game we at Empire like to call Let’s Make Up The Plot Because The Filmmakers Refuse To Announce It.
The latest entrant in the competition is writer/director Paul Soter, better known as one-fifth of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe, the minds behind Super Troopers (huzzah!), Club Dread (hideous!) and the coming-soon Beerfest (haven’t seen it yet!).
He’s currently working away on his first solo project, and has now announced a cast. Lucy Liu and Batman Begins’ Cillian Murphy will star in the romantic comedy Watching The Detectives, which Soter will star shooting in New York next month. What he isn’t spilling is any sort of synopsis.
So we’re guessing it’s a big-budget remake of the Jasper Carrott/Robert Powell series The Detectives, about two bungling plainclothes plods. We might be wrong, but we could see Liu playing the Carrott role as Roberta Louis.
