An animated story about fairies?

Lucasfilm Planning A Musical

An animated film is in pre-production at Lucasfilm, and while the details are under wraps, it's apparently a musical featuring fairies. Yes, you read that out. No, we don't mean another Star Wars prequel.

Kevin Munroe, who brought back the Mutant Turtles in TMNT a couple of years back, is set to direct, fresh from his live-action debut directing Dead Of Night with Brandon Routh. The screenplay was written by David Berenbaum, of Elf and The Spiderwick Chronicles - which certainly reinforces the notion that fairies might appear. The music, meanwhile, will apparently come from a number of sources, rather than being original songs.

If this all goes into production, we may be seeing something of a fairy mini-resurrgence. After all, as well as putting out a slew of direct-to-DVD Tinkerbell movies, Disney is also planning an adaptation of Philip K. Dick's King of the Elves, so this could find that it has some competition.

Still, Lucasfilm? Musical? Fairies? Sure, this is the studio that made Willow, so the fairies fit, and the animation bit comes as no great surprise given the visual talent there (enough with the prequel jokes now), but a musical? Your thoughts please.
