Quentin Tarantino is currently hard at work directing his 10th feature, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood — but ever the cinephile, he still found time to watch one of the year's most enticing upcoming films. The lucky so-and-so has already seen Luca Guadagnino’s new take on Suspiria, and it sounds like he quite liked it. By which we mean, it made him cry.

Interviewed by Italian publication La Repubblica, Guadagnino talked about showing his Dario Argento remake to Tarantino. “I was nervous but eager to hear his advice. We saw it at his place and his reaction warmed me,” he said. “He was enthusiastic about it - in the end, he was crying and hugged me. Because it’s a horror movie but also a melodrama, my goal was to make you look at the horror without being able to take [your eyes off the screen] because you’re captivated by the characters. Amazon is very happy.”

Crying and hugging sounds like a more-than-warm reception to us, and this is another sign that Guadagnino’s latest is one to be extremely excited about. Not only is it following hot on the heels of last year’s exemplary Call Me By Your Name (call me! call me!), but the film’s first trailer teased some arresting and unsettling imagery and sounds.

The new version features the likes of Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton and Chloë Grace Moritz in the cast, and it set for a 2 November release in the US from Amazon Studios. There’s no UK date confirmed yet – hopefully we won’t be waiting long to catch up with the States.
