Six feature films, four stage plays, one TV series: Koike Kazuo and Goseki Kojima’s Japanese comic book series, Lone Wolf And Cub has been adapted more times than we have fingers to count on. First published in 1970, the ultra-popular manga is headed to the big screen with an English-language production thanks to producer Steven Paul’s SP International Pictures.

Centring around disgraced samurai Ittō and his three-year-old son, Daigorō, Final Conflict was originally released as Japanese-language film Kozure Okami: Sono Chisaki Te Ni in 1993. “I have been a huge fan of the property for many years and can’t tell you how excited I am to have the opportunity to embark on this journey,” Paul said, revealing how Final Conflict will be made with ‘an essentially Japanese cast’ – perhaps referring to the furore that revolved around the upcoming Ghost In The Shell, which Paul is also producing.

Darren Aronofsky and Justin Lin have flirted with the project over the past 10 years, but no director has been announced for this incarnation just yet.

Lone Wolf And Cub: Final Conflict will begin shooting in 2017.
