Alfred Hitchcock was a man known for an obsession or two, so a writer-director planning to remake one of his films after shooting a short based on his ideas and a documentary about his techniques seems somehow appropriate.

The man campaigning for the title of World’s Biggest Hitch Fan is David Ondaatje, who will next year start remaking The Lodger, Hitchcock’s 1927 silent film, which itself is based on Marie Adelaide Lowndes’ novel.

The film will focus on two main plot strands - the relationship between a paranoid landlord and her tenant, who may or may not have something to do with a series of grisly murders modelled on Jack the Ripper’s handiwork. The other follows Detective Chandler Miller, who’s trying to nab the killer while slowly falling apart worried that he’s sent the wrong man to hang seven years ago for the crime.
