They've collaborated on five films together, and, after sitting on the idea for a couple of years, Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese have slid another film from the "Considering" column of their shared To-Do list to "Let's go!" The two are now officially aboard Killers Of The Flower Moon.

David Grann's non-fiction bestseller is set in 1920s Oklahoma and revolves around the Osage Nation, who were the richest people per capita in the world, after oil was discovered under their land and then they were murdered, one by one. As the death toll rose, the newly created FBI took up the case and unraveled a chilling conspiracy and one of the most monstrous crimes in American history.

Imperative Entertainment paid an eyebrow-raising $5 million for the rights to adapt the book in 2016 and further raided the coffers to pay Eric Roth to write the script. Scorsese and DiCaprio got interested in the idea last year, and now they're actually committing to making it, with production due to kick off next summer.

"When I read David Grann’s book, I immediately started seeing it — the people, the settings, the action — and I knew that I had to make it into a movie," Scorsese says in a statement. "I’m so excited to be working with Eric Roth and reuniting with Leo DiCaprio to bring this truly unsettling American story to the screen."

With no distributor attached yet, there isn't a release date to speak of, but it surely won't be long before companies come calling. DiCaprio has been working on Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, due out on 26 July next year. Scorsese is finishing up his latest, The Irishman, which Netflix will premiere next year.
