As a villain...

Though Chris Pratt pipped him to the post for the key role of Star-Lord in Guardians Of The Galaxy, Lee Pace clearly impressed director James Gunn and the Marvel team, because he’s been handed a crack at another major part. Pace is now locking down a deal to play one of the movie’s villains.

While The Wrap’s report doesn’t specify which character Pace is playing specifically (and he's probably not Thanos), yesterday’s casting notice for Ophelia Lovibond as an aide to The Collector makes us thing the powerful, ancient being could prove to be more of a problem for the Guardians than originally thought.

Pace, who has been scoring gigs on huge films – he can tick off working with Spielberg on Lincoln, the most recent Twilight film and a role as Thranduil in the Hobbit trilogy most recently – should be a great addition to the Marvel movie universe.

He’ll appear alongside Pratt, Lovibond, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and Michael Rooker in the Guardians, which is set to kick off shooting in the UK this June and hits screens on August 1, 2014.
