In August, it was announced that the eighth and latest addition to the seemingly endless string of Texas Chainsaw Massacre** entries was shuttling back to prequel territory, thanks to a script from Seth M. Sherwood. Now we know who will probably be directing the film that is currently called Leatherface: Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo.

According to Bloody Disgusting’s sources, Sherwood remains in charge of the screenplay, which is still largely under wraps save that it will be an origin story exploring Leatherface’s early years in the 1970s. Will we learn he loved disco? That his favourite TV series was Happy Days? Doubtful, but you never know…

Maury and Bustillo have form with horror, having previously made slasher pic Inside and a segment for The ABCs Of Death 2. The pressure will be on them to deliver the gory goods for a franchise that has been decidedly hit and miss through the years, with the misses starting to outweigh the hits. Perhaps a transfusion of new blood is exaxctly what it needs.
