The first trailer for Seth Rogen's Sausage Party unleashed all the swearing and human-on-food violence you could want. The new footage (along with a fair chunk we've seen already) goes the safer green-bad route, though still lays clear the terrible secret behind the world of food, or at least in the movie's animated world. Check out the latest teaser below.

In the universe of Sausage Party, food products of all kinds are self-aware and spend their days in the supermarket dreaming of when they might be picked by "gods" – humans – to join with them in eternity. It's only when they're purchased and reach our homes that they realise the horrific reality behind their religion: they're doomed to be sliced, peeled, boiled and otherwise consumed.

Our hero here is a hot dog sausage called Frank (Rogen) who realises the truth and then sets out to warn his friends. He and co-producer Evan Goldberg have recruited many of their friends to lend their voices, including James Franco, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Bill Hader, Edward Norton, Salma Hayek and Paul Rudd.

Sausage Party will grace our screens from September 2.
