Now they’ve set Sean Hayes, Will Sasso and Chris Diamantopoulos to play Larry, Curly and Moe in** The Three Stooges** the Farrelly brothers have turned their focus once more to gathering the supporting cast. And they’re rounding up a solid batch of comedy types to fill the various roles, with Larry David signing on to play a nun – no, really – called Mother Mengele in the film.

The comically named habit-wearer will be in charge of the orphanage where the three Stooges grow up and first start to cause real chaos. Mengele will work with Mother Superior (Jane Lynch) trying to control the wayward kids.

David, just in case you weren’t aware, is the man who co-created Seinfeld and is the driving, grumpy force behind ace US sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm (the next season of which simply can’t get here quick enough). He last cropped up on the big screen in Woody Allen’s Whatever Works, but the idea of him slipping into a nun’s habit and playing an overwhelmed bride of Christ just has us chuckling even without seeing the first picture.

With Peter and Bobby Farrelly set to kick off shooting on the film and Sofia Vergara still negotiating to play one of the female leads in the portmanteau pic, the Stooges should be on our screens some time next year.
