Though the supermarkets would have you believe Christmas has been here since sometime in October, the festive season is finally in full swing and thoughts are turning to the arrival of the jolly man who sneaks into homes delivering presents. Father Christmas has been a staple of movies for ages and now Kurt Russell will be the latest actor to don the red suit and beard for a Netflix original film.

Dreamt up by Matt Lieberman and David Guggenheim, with the former fashioning the idea into a script, the untitled film will see two siblings (to be played by Darby Camp and Judah Lewis) trying to prove the reality of Santa by catching him at work on camera.

Yet when they accidentally cause his sleigh to crash in Chicago, they have to help him get Christmas back on track. Chris Columbus, who has a little bit of experience working on Christmas-themed movies, will produce, while The Angry Birds Movie co-director Clay Kaytis is calling the shots.

This one should be ready for screens next Christmas. Well, it wouldn't make much sense to put it out in the summer, would it?
