She impressed in a henchwoman role as the sharp-footed Gazelle for Kingsman: The Secret Service, and now Sofia Boutella is off to an even bigger film. Deadline reports that she’s signed on for a lead role in** Star Trek 3.

Paramount has the deflector shields up on this one, so we don’t yet know who she’ll be playing or whether she’ll have the chance to be one of the heroes this time. But it’s certainly a great opportunity for her.

Justin Lin is at the helm of this one, with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin and Simon Pegg are all set to return for the new movie, with Pegg also on script duty alongside Doug Jung. Oh, and recent rumours have pointed to Idris Elba also beaming aboard.

“For me it's now about the spirit of adventure and exploration and also, in modern terms, just how would that be for people, to be away for that amount of time and that kind of stuff,” Pegg said recently. “We're trying to evolve the story at the same time as not letting it go."

The film will kick off shooting this summer before warping into cinemas on July 8 next year. As for Boutella, she’ll next be seen in Monsters: Dark Continent (due May 1), Jet Trash and Tiger Raid.
