Best take a cushion with you when you go to see King Kong, because it looks like Lord Of The Rings gave Peter Jackson the taste for marathon movies.

King Kong will clock in at three hours, which is apparently much longer than studio Universal had anticipated. Executives had been estimating a final cut of around two hours 40 minutes, but after a recent screening, they’ve approved the new running time and boosted the budget to a Kong-like $207 million.

"This is a three-hour feast of an event," Marc Shmuger, vice chairman of Universal told the New York Times. "I've never come close to seeing an artist working at this level."

"I anticipated it would be long, but not this long," adds Universal chairwoman Stacey Snider. But she’s clearly happy. "This is a masterpiece. I can't wait to unveil it."
