Ancient family homes are a prime source of terror in horror movies, and when you pair that with a main character in conflict with the people who live there, the stage is set for something sinister. Empire has an exclusive look at the trailer for Sky Cinema's Kindred.

The story finds Ben (Edward Holcroft) and Charlotte (Tamara Lawrance), who are celebrating getting pregnant and planning to move their life to Australia for a fresh start. The second part of that news does not sit well with Ben's mother, Margaret (Fiona Shaw) or stepbrother, Thomas (Jack Lowden), and the situation is further complicated when Ben dies suddenly in a mysterious accident.

Charlotte finds herself in Ben's family home, a crumbling old manor house in the middle of nowhere with Margaret and Thomas. They are determined to care for her, at least until the baby arrives. Grief stricken and increasingly haunted by visions possibly brought on by the pregnancy, Charlotte accepts their help. But as the days go by she begins to doubt their intentions and her suspicions grow. Are they drugging her and keeping her captive, with the aim of taking her unborn baby? As her visions intensify and the haze of lies grows, Charlotte decides that her only option is to break free from this family once and for all – but at what cost?

Shaw is on typically strong form here, and co-writer/director Joe Marcantonio has cooked up some suitably unnerving visuals. The film will launch on 25 June in the UK via Sky Cinema and NOW.
