Ever since it premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Michael Winterbottom’s adaptation of the Jim Thompson novel The Killer Inside Me** has been sparking controversy for Casey Affleck’s portrayal of psychotic sheriff’s deputy Lou Ford. Now the final trailer for the movie is online over at Apple.

Dividing audiences with its unflinching portrayal of violence and psychosis (our own festival expert Damon Wise weighed in over on the blog), the film follows Ford as his outwardly pleasant demeanour begins to crumble, revealed as the mask hiding a driven sociopath.

Assigned to run a prostitute (Jessica Alba) out of town, he instead kicks off an affair with her, and also starts planning to blackmail a local businessman. It’s proved difficult to watch, but also compelling.

Take a look at the trailer and decide for yourself. The film arrives in UK cinemas on June 8.
