Kidman And Watts, Together At Last

They've been BFFs (best friends forever) since, well, forever, but Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman have never found a Hollywood project to do together* - until now. Yes, the bosom buddies will be starring together in Need, a 'sexy' thriller due to start late this autumn.

Sadly for the chums, they'll be playing archenemies: Watts takes the role of a psychiatrist, and Kidman is the unstable patient who steals her husband. So probably not so much with the slumber parties and painting each other's toenails then.

The film will be directed by Ryan Murphy, the guy behind the success of Nip/Tuck and the rather less success of his film debut Running With Scissors. He's just signed a new mega-deal with Fox, which guarantees him $4 million a year for three years, plus $2 million to keep his production company running smoothly, plus another $6 million if Nip/Tuck runs into a sixth season.

In return, he'll be overseeing the fifth season of the show, and the creation of a pilot for his new series "4oz" (about a married sportswriter who decides to have a sex change operation and the effect this has on his 'gender-conflicted' teenage sons), and coming up with new shows for Fox's FX channel, 20th Century Fox TV and the Fox Network.

As if that weren't enough, he's also gearing up another two films for Plan B Productions: Eat, Pray, Love with Julia Roberts, and Dirty Tricks with Meryl Streep, about Martha Mitchell, a player in the Watergate scandal. Sheesh, hasn't this guy heard of the concept of a holiday?

Yes, they did appear in 1991's Australian film Flirting, but that was pre-fame for both of them.
