No Khan In Star Trek 2

Perhaps mindful of the Spider-Man 3 farrago, it seems the new Star Trek production team have no desire to pander to any "we want a villain we love" fanboy pedantry. Badass has learned from an insider that the much-rumoured Khan Noonien Singh will not be a part of **Star Trek 2. But that doesn't mean that nobody at all from The Original Series will show up.

Badass' source says that the film's story has now been settled, and "won't focus on a traditional villain type at all", but that it will feature a character (or characters) from Star Trek's first season. Specifically? That question was met with "Hahahaha!", but Mr Source did say that, "It's definitely a character that will make fans of The Original Series excited. Think along the lines of Harry Mudd or Trelane or Gary Mitchell or the Talosians or the Horta... Actually it's one of those that I named."

Harry Mudd was the comedy conman who turned up twice in the show's original incarnation smuggling women; Trelane was a baby god who messed with the Enterprise (a bit like The Next Generation's Q) for an episode; Gary Mitchell was the former Enterprise helmsman who went crazy in the second pilot episode; the Talosians were the bulbous-headed aliens from original pilot The Cage and its two-part reworking The Menagerie, both of which involved Captain Pike; and the Horta was a big lump of space rock that killed miners.

So, dear Trekkie readers, are you excited by any of the above? And which do you think would fit best in JJ Abrams' refitted Star Trek universe? Give us your thoughts below.
