Kevin James IS Mall Cop

A couple of voice gigs and cameos aside, Kevin James – star of the small-screen sitcom, King Of Queens – has only appeared in two movies. Luckily for him, those two movies were Hitch and I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry – both big hits – and so he’s accrued sufficient power to have his own movie greenlit.

And that movie is Mall Cop, a comedic take on Die Hard in which James’ schlubby security guard is forced to become a hero when a group of thieves target the shopping mall at which he works. We don’t know about you, but we can see the slapstick opportunities coming from a mile off – it’s Home Alone with brand names.

James, in a reflection of his newfound status as a hot box office commodity (even if Hitch and Chuck & Larry’s grosses can be attributed almost entirely to his more illustrious co-stars, Will Smith and Adam Sandler), will not only star, but produce and write the script, with Todd Bakay.

Sandler’s Happy Madison production company is overseeing the project.
