Saturday night at the recent San Diego Comic-Con belonged to Marvel, which dominated Hall H and much of the news cycle by unveiling a slew of projects that make up the vast majority of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There were also nods towards the future, and according to studio boss Kevin Feige, the team already has Phase 5 mapped out beyond that.
Talking to MTV's Josh Horowitz, Feige covered the fact that Mahershala Ali was announced as the new Blade, for a project – probably a movie – that won't actually fit into Phase 4 as it stands. "We debated what we should announce today,” Feige says in the video. "Should we announce 4 and 5? We’ve planned them out, we’ve got five years down the road and I was like, 'I think eleven projects in two years is plenty.' Having not mentioned anything for two or three years."
Feige also addressed the fact that Phase 4 comprises 11 projects and that 10 were announced, so we can expect more news down the road (potentially at Disney's big D23 event next month). He's also on the record as saying that some of Phase 4 itself could also change, much as Phase 3 turned out slightly differently from when Feige originally announced it (sorry, Inhumans).
Which means that while we have a largely complete road map of the MCU's next couple of years, expect one or two shifts, and start speculating now about the form of Phase 5.
