There’s a change happening within the sprawling cast of Garry Marshall’s** New Year’s Eve**, with Halle Berry dropping out and Katherine Heigl stepping to replace her.

Heigl will play the same character – a woman who meets up with a former flame who has gone on to become a famous music star, played by Jon Bon Jovi.

Marshall’s follow-up to his previous holiday-themed romantic comedy drama Valentine’s Day takes place – as if you couldn’t guess – in the run-up to midnight on New Year’s Eve as various characters try to figure out their romantic lives, fall in love, deal with problems or, in one case, cross their fingers that their wife gives birth to the first baby of the new year so they can claim a cash prize.

Half of the available actors in the US have signed on for this one, attracted by the idea of shooting a quick couple of scenes and then heading off to other jobs. Jessica Biel, Abigail Breslin, Robert De Niro, Josh Duhamel, Ashton Kutcher, Glee’s Lea Michele, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michelle Pfeiffer, Til Schweiger and Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara are all on board for intertwining stories.

Marshall is kicking off shooting this week in New York.
