He's been an actor, writer and producer for a while now, mostly thanks to TV's It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Charlie Day's looking to branch out into directing, and is gathering quite the cast for his first film behind the camera, El Tonto. Kate Beckinsale, Jason Sudeikis, John Malkovich, Edie Falco and Jillian Bell will all co-star in the movie.

El Tonto will star Day (who also wrote the script) as a mute simpleton who gets off a bus in Los Angeles and by happenstance suddenly rises through the Hollywood scene to become a celebrity, only to then lose it all. Beckinsale will play a Hollywood starlet while Sudeikis will portray a film director who Day’s mute encounters. The other roles are mysteries for now.

Day will have the cameras rolling this month in Los Angeles, with Horrible Bosses producer John Rickard working on the satire. There's no word on a release date yet.
