Justin Long – something of a cult hero here at Empire Towers – has joined the cast of Robert Redford’s next film, the period drama, The Conspirator.

The movie stars Robin Wright Penn as Mary Surratt, a Confederate accused of involvement in the conspiracy to assassinate Abraham Lincoln, and James McAvoy as the army colonel who agrees, reluctantly, to defend her.

Long, making something of a detour from his usual forays into comedy and horror, will play McAvoy’s best friend, a war veteran who lost a limb during the conflict.

Redford, directing for the first time since 2007’s** Lions For Lambs**, will call the shots when the movie starts shooting in Georgia this month.
