Richard Masur, the President of the Screen Actors Guild, is urging actors to refuse to smoke in front of the camera. In the current issue of The Actor, he says, "We are asking for your help so that you won't unconsciously contribute to kids starting to smoke." Since nearly all smokers begin in their teens, he continues, "smoking is a pediatric disease to which we actors may all be contributing." He asks that his article be copied and sent to fellow actors because, "Lives are at stake."
