"Juraaaassic Park!" as Alan Partridge might say. The dino-franchise has been trapped in Hollywood's equivalent of amber since the Cretaceous era - well, 2002 - but it's trapped no longer. Pick up your disposal water cups because Jurassic Park IV is thumping ominously towards the screen.
After a setback in May, recent scuttlebutt had the film back underway. Those sharp-eyed folk at Coming Soon have spotted a Jurassic Park IV banner at Licensing Expo 2013 in Las Vegas that seems to confirm it. The date, there in slate grey, is 2015, a year later than the originally mooted release of June 13, 2014. Click here for a closer look.
The official Licensing Expo 2013 bumph notes also confirms that the film will be in 3D, although whether it's to be shot in stereo or post-converted remains unconfirmed.
Jurassic Park IV** was delayed only last month, officially to give to give "the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth instalment in Universal’s beloved franchise", but more likely because the script wasn't quite where it needed to be. Colin Trevorrow and his co-writer Derrick Connelly have since been beavering away on the draft originally penned by Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes' Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and are seemingly closer to having a shoot-ready version.
Last year we saw some earlier Jurassic Park IV dinosaur designs that had a freaky hybrid feel. Will we see something as bold in the finished product? Watch this space.
