Top film tie for first time in history

The results of America's 34th National Society of Film Critics Awards, which were announced yesterday, were notable for having given two movies the Best Film Award for the first time in the association's history. Spike Jonze's Being John Malkovich and Mike Leigh's Topsy Turvy tied for Best Picture and both films won two further awards - Topsy Turvy the Best Director Award and Being John Malkovich Best Screenplay. Other awards given by the association were as follows: Best Actor: Russell Crowe (The Insider) Best Actress: Reese Witherspoon (Election) Best Cinematography: Conrad L Hall (American Beauty)
