Jon Avnet wants to get in on the serial killer thriller genre. He’s setting up an adaptation of Giorgo Faletti's Italian slaughter tome I Kill.

The book’s plot finds a serial slayer based in Monte Carlo whose big gimmick is to call a radio DJ to request a song that fits the theme of his next murder. Avnet has apparently nearly finished the final shooting script, which he’s reworking from a first draft by Davide Ferrario.

"The book is Italy's biggest bestseller of the past few years," producer Aurelio De Laurentiis Jr told Variety. Avnet, whose last film was Al Pacino misfire 88 Minutes, and who's probably best known for, er, Fried Green Tomatoes, plans to start shooting early next year on the Cote d’Azur.
