Angelina Jolie, who's up for an Oscar for her role in Girl, Interrupted, looks set to play Lara Croft in the much-anticipated live action version of Tomb Raider to be directed by Simon West. News from today's Variety that Jolie is in final negotiations for the part will be bad news for a host of actresses whose names were bandied about in connection with the role. Stars as diverse as Elizabeth Hurley, Diane Lane and (we kid you not) Anna Nicole Smith were all rumoured to be in the running at some point. Jolie's previous role as a tough rookie cop in The Bone Collector shows she's prepared to kick ass onscreen, and the opportunity to see her in Croft's skimpy shorts should guarantee a very large audience indeed.
