Given that Todd Phillips' self-proclaimed dark and gritty origin tale Joker takes place in the 1980s, it's perhaps not surprising that any Bruce Wayne we meet would be younger. That's the direction he's taking, as Dante Pereira-Olsen will play Bruce as a child, with Douglas Hodge snagging the role of butler Alfred Pennyworth.

Joker, which takes place in its own, separate chunk of the DC universe, features Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, a wannabe performer who life grinds down and turns into the psychotic Clown Prince Of Crime.

Pereira-Olson, who played a young version of Phoenix's Joe in You Were Never Really Here and Hodge join a cast that also includes Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp and, perhaps most crucially for them, Brett Cullen as Bruce's father, Thomas Wayne.

The movie is in production and will be out in the UK 4 October next year. You can learn Everything You Need To Know about it with our feature.
