Johnny Depp’s next major movie was supposed to be coming out in a month’s time – but crime thriller City of Lies has reportedly been pulled from US release schedules by distributor Global Road. The film stars Depp as Russell Poole, the LAPD detective who investigated the murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G, and was originally scheduled for a 7 September release in the US and UK. Global Road has not commented on whether City Of Lies will receive a new US release date, and the UK is currently awaiting a new release date from distributor Entertainment One.

During production on the film, Depp is alleged to have assaulted location manager Greg “Rocky” Brooks in April 2017, with Brooks filing a lawsuit in July 2018 claiming that Depp verbally abused him and punched him twice. Brooks also claimed that he was fired from the film after refusing to sign a paper saying that he wouldn’t sue Depp for the alleged attack.

City Of Lies is directed by Brad Furman and based on Randall Sullivan’s non-fiction book LAbyrinth. Starring opposite Depp is Forest Whitaker as Jack Jackson, the journalist who teamed up with Poole to help investigate the murders.
